Building a Workflow Definition

A workflow definition is the repeatable pattern of activity built in Workflow 8 to interact with entries in a Laserfiche repository. Workflow definitions are built using activities.

To build a new workflow definition

  1. Select the button from the toolbar to open a new Designer Pane.
  2. To provide a custom name and description for a workflow, replace the Closeddefaults in the Properties Pane.

  3. Add an activity to your workflow by dragging it from the Toolbox Pane and dropping it in the Designer Pane.
  4. Click on an activity in the Designer Pane to configure it in the Properties Pane. Most activities will display a icon until they are properly configured. Workflows containing icons cannot be published.
  5. Add and configure additional activities if necessary.
  6. Publish the workflow.
  7. Assign the workflow a starting rule.

    Note: A workflow must be published and assigned a starting rule before it becomes operational.
